One Sunday night during my youth
ministry days, I handed out bags filled with cardboard boxes, gift bags, 2 L
bottles, wrapping paper, bows, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, and various
sizes of paper. The youth were instructed
to use all of the items to create something NEW. After they got over the initial shock of
playing with trash, they got to work creating a woman they named Trashy,
another group created a TV with aluminum foil antennas, and still another group
created a boat with a yellow tissue paper sail. This exercise was to remind the youth of how God works in their
lives. God works in all of our lives by
transforming our trash into something beautiful.
"Anyone in Christ is a new creation: the old has passed away and everything is being made new."
2 Corinthians 5: 17
